Reading Response #6
The readings are derived from the ideology that architecture in modern society as evolved into practice of wasteful architecture. Explaining that with advancements in technology and construction innovations design has become nothing more than soulless interiors. Rem Koolhaas mentions that, “Junkspace is nothing more ornamental design and pushing the question that architecture is no long about the environment, but has become everything; a never-ending alteration of our self-image.
In addition, “The Evolution of Space Planning is the Workplace”, cultivates how civilization has impacted the workplace environment. How the skyscraper is not an invention of creativity and innovation but instead out of necessity birthing from corporations. That design is no longer constricted due to the modern commodities of air-conditioning, elevators, artificial lighting, sprinklers, etc.… Thus, metastasizing into the is big idea that “Junkspace” is meaningless design, no long serving a purpose.
