Reading Response 4
“What exactly is the situation? The need is for the realization of a higher game, more precisely a stimulus to this game known as human existence.” (The Situationists, International Manifesto). I believe this the foundation of the thesis and the point the author was trying to get across. That to the general population architecture is a generic commodity and that what is truly important lies within and his created by the “occupants” of the architecture. Though I believe this general ideology of architecture to be true. Architecture holds a much deeper presence, like that driven by Andy Architect, that it creates a platform or program that drives the experience for what the “occupants” or consumers of the experience believe they create. Warhols favorite place to visit was Bloomingdales, not because it was a manafestation of a mulit-use program. But because each individual space within the interior activated a different emotion. That regardless of the experience, it is already predetermined by outside factors. Thus, creating the need for situationalisits, attempting to break away from the oppression created by modern media and forming a new way thinking driven by “free will”. This new "free will" idealogy of think is a corner stone developed in article "Acid Visions".
