It is a Oaxacan Folk art first created by a renowned indigenous Mexican artist named Pedro Linares (1906-1992). The figures of outlandish creatures surfaced when Pedro Linares became extremely sick and lost consciousness. He began having bizarre and vivid dreams of a world that resembled a forest full of these strange animals that came to form from the enivorment around around him. When he awoke from this strange dreamworld his fever had gone and he was left with these powerful images of mystical creatures.
