Skill Building / Research Phase (DJ Training):
Week One Aug. 26:
Intro to course & Ospace class portfolio: Watch KXLU video. Demo digital audio recorders. Complete Recorded Interviews, and upload to Ospace along with profile picture and answers to questions on student profile page.
Homework: Begin Radio Show Reviews – listen to and record show; write review and post to OSpace.
Sept. 1: No School - Labor Day
Week Two Sept. 9:
Learn the history of Radio with guest speaker Eric Wrobbel. Listen to Movie and Radio Show review examples. Demo audio editing software. Work in class on Radio Show Reviews
Homework: Complete Songs We Love / Songs We Hate. Continue working on Radio Show Reviews. Listen to NPR Story about Radio Commercials.
Week Three Sept. 16: (3:30 meet @ KXLU/KLMU - map)
KXLU/KLMU tour. Practice DJ’ing (Songs We Love / Songs We Hate) on-air.
Homework: Work on Radio Show Reviews.
Extra Credit: Participate in KCHUNG Radio's Wisper Reports at the Hammer Museum 9/19 or 9/21 (more info here).
Week Four Sept. 23:
Watch Have milennials forgotten how to speak? on BBC. Continue audio editing demo (if necessary) and work on Radio Show Reviews.
Homework: Complete Radio Show Reviews.
Extra Credit: Participate in KCHUNG Radio's Wisper Reports at the Hammer Museum 9/26 or 9/28 (more info here).
Week Five Sept. 30:
Listen to and critique Radio Show Reviews. Reconfigure DJ groups. Begin Low Powered FM Transmissions project.
Homework: Plan first DJ shows and work on Low Powered FM Transmissions project post progress to OSpace.
Week Six Oct. 7:
Guest Speaker via Skype: Kristy Baltezore (KCHUNG Radio DJ, Otis MFA Student). Work in class on Low Powered FM Transmissions project.
Homework: Work on Low Powered FM Transmissions project post progress to OSpace.
Week Seven Oct. 14:
Work on Low Powered FM Transmissions project.
Homework: Complete Low Powered FM Transmissions project and post progress to OSpace.
Week Eight Oct. 21:
Present & critique Low Powered FM Transmissions project. Begin Final Projects.
Homework: Meet in groups to begin Final Projects ideas. Post proposals on OSapce.
Final Project Phase:
Week Nine Oct. 28 :
DJ at KLMU & Brainstorm and work on Final Projects at Otis.
Homework: Update final project progress on OSpace and continue working
Week Ten - Thirteen (Nov. 4, Nov. 11, Nov. 18, Nov. 25):
DJ at KLMU & Work on Final Projects at Otis.
Homework: Each week update final project progress on OSpace and continue working
Extra Credit: DJ at the IL Fairs (with Mark) Tues. 11/12 & Thurs. 11/13 @ 11-12. Come prepared with 1/2 hour of music on iPod or USB drive.
Week Fourteen Dec. 2: Present and Critique Final Projects - location TBD
4:00-4:30 LMU & Otis Student Life - KLMU broadcast
4:30-4:45 critique
4:45 -5:00 set up for next broadcast
5:00-6:00 Sound Art - KLMU broadcast
6:00-6:15 critique

7:00-9:00 Otis On the Green - live concert/ustream broadcast
Week Fifteen Dec. 9:
All documentation of final projects due - posted to OSpace. Complete course evaluations and peer reviews. Post & Submit work in IL Section of Learning ePortfolios.
