Skill Building / Research Phase (DJ Training):
Week One: Jan. 23: Introduction to Course
Intro to course & OSpace class portfolio. Watch KXLU video. Listen to StoryCorps. Demo digital audio recorders. Complete Recorded Interviews / DJ Profiles.
Homework: Attend and reflect on Tuning the Room: opening reception and acoustic event Sat. Jan. 28, 2-4pm. Complete Songs that Matter. Listen to KXLU.
Week Two Jan. 30: Independent vs. Commercial Radio
(3:30 meet @ KXLU/KLMU - walking directions & campus map)
KXLU/KLMU tour. Listen to NPR Story about Radio Commercials. Discussion on media coverage of recent events since Trump's Inaguration. Practice DJ’ing on the air (Songs that Matter).
Homework: Complete Radio Show Review and reflect on today's discussion.
Week Three Feb. 6: Diversity and Gatekeeping
Listen to, watch and discuss links here. Skype with Visiting Artist Taniel Morales (4:45pm).
Homework: Make a Request and collect remaining sound files for response to events since the inauguration (to become Audio Postcards).
Week Four Feb. 13: Audio Postcards
Listen to collected audio files. Audio editing demo. Work on Audio Postcards.
Homework: Complete Audio Postcards.
No Class Presidents' Day Holiday Feb. 20

Attend and reflect on Impossible Measures: A Discussion with Anna Craycroft and Micah Silver. Post your reflections here.
Week Five Feb. 27: Visiting Artist Workshop
Listen to Audio Postcards. Workshop with Taniel Morales - experiment with different strategies for collecting audio.
Homework: Record sounds from your everyday routines for Project w/ Taniel Morales.
Week Six March 6: Visiting Artist Workshop
Workshop with Taniel Morales - make sense of the collected audio (edit, remix, combine with images/text, etc.)
Homework: TBD
Week Seven March 13: Visiting Artist Workshop - Mid Term Critiques
Workshop with Taniel Morales - social engagement with each audio investigation. Brainstorm for Final Projects / Radio Shows.
Homework: Develop and Complete Radio Show Proposals

Weeks Nine April 3:
Promotional Materials due. Work on Radio Broadcasts. Add content to Otis Radio Tumblr.

Week Fifteen May 9 (Tues.):
All documentation of all projects due - posted to OSpace & Otis Radio Tumblr. Complete course evaluations and peer reviews. Post & Submit work in CAIL Section of Learning ePortfolios.
