MA & Ph.D. (Folklore and Mythology) UCLA; MA, (Education) Catholic Univ. of Puerto Rico; BA (Hispanic Studies) Univ. of Puerto Rico. Extensive publications on African-based religions in the New World, including Santeria Garments and Altars: Speaking Without a Voice (1994); Fit for a Queen: Analysis of a Consecration Outfit in the Cult of Yemaya. Ysamur has presented scholarly papers at the Fowler Museum and the St. Louis Museum among other professional and academic venues nationally and internationally.

Ysamur has been teaching full-time at Otis since Fall 2005.
