Alē McGrew

Alē McGrew is a visual artist, arts advocate and nonprofit manager born in Oakland, CA.   Raised in the struggling community of Modesto, CA, Alē began volunteering for the Salvation Army, homeless shelters and orphanages as a child.  The importance of community engagement and philanthropy has been an important theme to Alē’s personal development and artistic vision.  Upon receiving a Bachelor of Science in Design from University of California, Davis, Alē explored arts engagement as both an artist and nonprofit board officer in small communities in California and Montana.  The experiences led to a desire to strengthen her knowledge within both fields.  Currently, Alē lives in Los Angeles, CA and is pursuing a Masters of Arts in Arts Management at Claremont Graduate University and a Master of Fine Art in Public Practice at Claremont Graduate University.   Alē’s work explores social-political issues, such as the domestic abuse and mental health, while subtly challenging western ways of living.  Seeing the interconnectedness of the human experience, Alē seeks to build communities through creating arts engagement, participatory arts experiences and multi-agency projects in temporary outdoor installations, video and performance.
